Long-distance gifts that arrive instantly

Posting anything across a border means three weeks and a customs form. A link arrives in the time it takes to send it, which matters more than it sounds when the occasion is tomorrow.

Let the clocks do the emotional work

Showing their hour beside yours says the thing without you having to write it. It is the single most effective element on a long-distance page, and it costs you nothing but picking two cities.

Set both properly — a page that recalculates daylight saving on its own stays correct all year.

A countdown is a promise, so make it real

Put the actual next date you will be in the same room. A countdown to a date you have not booked is worse than no countdown, because they will notice it never gets closer.

If there is no date yet, say so plainly instead. Honesty about that is more comforting than a fake number.

Record something badly and leave it

A voice note of you saying something ordinary is worth more than a paragraph of it. Record it once and do not re-record it — the version with a bus going past is the one that sounds like you.

Name the specific places

Long distance runs on shared coordinates. The bench outside the terminal. The bakery you still order two at. Their side of a bed in another country.

Generic longing is unmemorable. A named place is a thing they can picture from six thousand kilometres away.

The same thing, written badly and written well

  • Distance means nothing when someone means everything.

I miss you on Tuesday afternoons, when there is nothing to report.

  • Cannot wait to see you soon!

Eleven nights, arriving 20 December, no airport goodbye in the middle.

If you are stuck

Answer one of these honestly and you will have the sentence the page needs.

  1. 01What is the hardest hour of the week, and what would you say during it?
  2. 02Which ordinary thing do you miss more than the big things?
  3. 03What will you do first when you land?
  4. 04What have you not told them because the call was too short?

Where to start

Templates that fit this.

Long Distance

For the ones doing it from two time zones. Their hour running beside yours, the kilometres named out loud, a countdown to the next time you are in the same room, sealed notes for the nights the call drops, and a promise at the end that this is the boring part, not the whole story.

Missing You

For no reason at all, on an ordinary Tuesday. A page about the small specific absences — the noise in the next room, the half of something handed over — sent when nothing on the calendar asked for it. The unprompted ones land hardest.

Anniversary 01

The long one. A slow scroll through the whole thing — the day it started counting, the moments you both remember differently, the apology you have been meaning to make properly, seven promises, sealed notes for later, and a surprise at the end. Built for anniversaries that deserve more than a caption.
